VicRelief Foodbank have been a beneficiary of SPC's 'Share-A-Can'
donations.
VicRelief Foodbank hope the recently
developed Bendigo FoodShare model will become a template adopted by
other regional towns, making food distribution effective for both
time and money spent.
Community food charities, including
VicRelief Foodbank, are in dire need of donations following an
noticeable increase of food insecure in Victoria. According to the
collaborative report released by VicRelief Foodbank, FareShare and
SecondBite, more donations are required of meat, fruit and
vegetables to keep up with the increasing demand for relief.
VicRelief Foodbank agency, 4Cs is one
of many community food programs around the state buying more than a
third of the food they need to provide for families doing it tough.
Ms Jenni Mathieson, director of 4Cs, said it was things like milk,
eggs, sugarand cereal that were were the most expensive and sought
after items.
According to the collaborative report
by VicRelief Foodbank, FareShare and SecondBite released last week,
about 300,000 Victorians go hungry each year, with 25 per cent of
the demand for additional food unmet.

call for funds and fashion"
The Red Cross is operating 14 relief centres in flood-affected
parts of Victoria, and six recovery centres in towns where the
flood has passed and people are returning to their homes. VicRelief
Foodbank (vrfb.com.au) is distributing food to these centres,
including flying 1250 meals into the isolated towns of Charlton,
Boort and
Rochester yesterday.
